Ordering Information

General Info

We use PayPal's shopping cart system to make purchasing from us safe and simple. Each time you click on the "Add to Cart" button next to an item will add one of that item to your shopping cart (which opens up in a new window and persists until you close it). Should you accidentally close your cart window, click on the "View Cart" button to regenerate it. You can change the quantity of any item in your cart at any time and get an instant update of the total due, including shipping charges. PayPal handles all aspects of the shopping cart and checkout process so we never "see" your credit card. The upside to this is that you don't have to worry about us zipping over to Best Buy's website to get that 50" plasma TV we've been eyeing using your credit card number. The downside is that we can't accept payments over the phone or in an e-mail (however, our partner, Aerostich, can).

Shipping

We use the United States Postal Service to ship all orders by default: First Class Mail for purchases $35 and under going to domestic US addresses; Priority Mail for all other orders except those going to international addresses which will be sent Global Priority Mail unless specifically requested otherwise. Most orders ship out within 1-2 business days, including Saturdays, but it occasionally takes up to 3 days. Generally, if there will be a delay in shipping out your order we'll send you an e-mail, otherwise you only receive an e-mail from PayPal when your order is on its way. If you are in a big hurry to get an xma3 you'll probably be better off ordering it from Aerostich as they offer overnight shipping.

International (Non-US) Customers

PayPal is now able to apply separate shipping rates for non-US customers so proceed with ordering as normal. International shipping rates range from $9 to $22 US. Transit takes from 4 days to 2 weeks - any longer than that and your order has likely been held up for duties at Customs.

Power Leads

There are three power lead options available for the xma3 v.2. The stock lead terminates in bare wire so it is up to you to solder/crimp/splice/whatever it to your bike's electrical system. For those with powered tank bags, etc., a power lead with either a BMW-style or cigarette lighter plug might be more convenient. All power leads terminate into a 5.5mm x 2.1mm coaxial ("barrel") plug at the xma3 v.2 end and the center pin/white stripe is [+].

Isolating Patch Cords

Some GPS units, radar detectors, CB radios and other battery-powered mono audio devices have what is called a "floating" or "BTL" audio output which is meant to drive a single speaker, not connect to another amplifier. This type of amplifier is almost universally used in car stereos because it lets you produce quadruple the wattage for a given battery voltage. To connect such a device to another amplifier though, such as the xma3 v.2, requires isolating ("lifting") the ground at the amplifier's input. Most such devices with this type of output will use a 2.5mm (aka "sub-mini" or 3/32") jack instead of a 3.5mm jack to indicate that the output is not meant to drive headphones and/or another amplifier (the Garmin™ Quest being a notable exception... it uses a 3.5mm jack anyway). A list of devices known to require an isolating patch cord (which is by no means exhaustive) are: older Garmin™ mono GPS (newer ones with stereo jacks do no need isolation), Escort™ radar detectors (these typically will need Escort™'s proprietary ground loop isolator cord to interface with any external amplifier, isolated or not), the 2.5mm jack on the rear of the Valentine One™'s Remote Audio Module is speaker only but the 3.5mm jack on the front is not, and most hand-held CB, VHF, Marine, etc., radios (and beware - many of these have 3.5mm jacks). The moral of this story is to check the owner's manual of every mono device you plan to connect to the xma3 v.2 for warnings about not connecting it to anything but an external speaker. If no obvious warnings are found, however, then here are some clues to look for just to make sure:

  • Audio output is mono, not stereo;
  • And/or the power output is 0.5W or more;
  • And/or it has a built-in speaker (big clue!);
  • And it runs on batteries (but not a 9V battery!);
  • Finally, it makes a lot of noise when you do plug it into an external amp (keep it brief).

The fine print: Isolating Patch Cords are 72" long by default. You can specify a shorter length when you order - just put the length desired in the "Optional Instructions" field at checkout - but please note that there are no refunds for custom length cords! Isolating Patch Cords may be black or gray in color depending on my parts supplier's mood. Finally, I designed the Isolating Patch Cords to interface with the xma3 v.2 and while they will usually work with other manufacturer's products, I obviously don't guarantee that they will - keep this in mind if you order a custom length cord!
